Divers Look to Qualify for Rio 2016 at FINA Diving World Cup

Divers from all around the world have been competed at the 2016 FINA Diving World Cup in Rio this weekend for a chance to compete at the Olympics in August, and will continue to compete until Wednesday.

This was the first time divers had the chance to dive at the Maria Lenk Aquatic Center, where the Olympic diving and synchronized swimming events will be held in August.

The 2016 FINA Diving World Cup is the last chance for divers to qualify for the Olympics.

Here is how the Diving field is shaping up for the Olympics:

The following divers have qualified at the 2016 FINA Diving World Cup:

Men’s 3m Springboard

Women’s 3m Springboard

  • Maria Marconi (ITA)

  • Juliana Veloso (BRA)
  • Kassidy Cook (USA)

  • Tina Punzel (GER)

For the synchronized diving events the following countries have qualified at 2016 FINA Diving World Cup:

Men’s 3m Synchronized Springboard

  • Germany
  • Mexico
  • Italy
  • United States

They will join China, Russia and Great Britain who qualified at the FINA World Championship last July, as well as the host nation, Brazil.

Men’s 10m Synchronized Platform

  • Germany
  • Great Britain
  • Ukraine
  • United States

They will join China, Russia and Mexico who qualified at the FINA World Championship last July, as well as the host nation, Brazil.

Women’s 3m Synchronized Springboard

  • Italy
  • Malaysia
  • Great Britain
  • Germany

They will join China, Canada and Australia who qualified at the FINA World Championship last July, as well as the host nation, Brazil.

Women’s 10m Synchronized Platform

  • Malaysia
  • Great Britain
  • Mexico
  • United States

They will join China, Canada and North Korea who qualified at the FINA World Championship last July, as well as the host nation, Brazil.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the rest of the field in individual diving will be decided. Stay tuned for more details this week!
